Re: software for MASW analysis

Hi Maybe you should take a look at Geopsy, I'm not sure how good it is on its results, but it has a tutorial to process MASW. I usually works with PARKSEIS. You can download the software right from their page. I'll give you a link of the tutorial to MASW http://www.geopsy.org/wiki/index.php/Active_s...

Filters used in signal analysis, FIR or IIR?

Hi guys I've been practicing the filtering of signals in Matlab, but, as always, I have a question.. What are the most common filters used in Geophysics? FIR or IIR? I think the FIR are more effective (and they can be designed as a linear phase Filter, and they are always stable), but at the expense...

Re: Surface waves modes help

This is what I understand about it An object (string, particle, etc..) can only vibrate in a stable and sustained way (periodic wave) only at certain excitation frequencies. The lowest of these frequencies is known as the fundamental frequency (or fundamental mode). This is, the lowest frequency tha...

Geophysical instruments: Geophone

Hi guys I'm learning about geophones, but I have a question, maybe a bit dumb.. when we say, for example, that a geophone has a natural frequency of 10 Hz.. what does it means? That above that frequency (or below) it will not work properly? I'm a bit confused, and I haven't found a good answer.. :| ...

Inverse Problem - DCIP data

Hi guys I've been studying the inversion theory, cause I'm applying it to DCIP data, using the UBC DCIP2D program. I'm a bit confused about the relationship between the standard deviation of the data and the inversion process. I mean, for example if the standard deviation of one datum in particular ...
