Extracting EBCDIC headers from multiple segy files on a tape using segyread

Hello Everyone

I want to extract just the EBCDIC headers from multiple segy files stored on a tape , is there anyway of doing it using segyread?

I believe you can use the option shown in segyread self-document:

hfile=header

You can write a script to read multiple segy files.

Hi Geophix,

In fact I am completely new to the segyread module , what I wanted to achieve is to skip to next segy file on tape after extracting header from one file .

If you have a file on disc you can just use UNIX. I had a bit of hack for that I think I can find... ah here we are:

head -f inputfile >temp
dd if=temp conv=ascii of >3200_byte.txt

then just

more 3200_byte.txt

You can get the files off tape using the unix command tapecopy
