Non seismic geophysics, need help!

Post by naufal.abdila »

Hello guys,

I'm geophysics student and now in my senior year. In my study so far, I really excited with non seismic methods such TDIP, resistivity, magnetic, gravity etc. But then I think about how this non seismic things really work in industry, how we as young geophysicists deal with career prospect. Besides, the condition here in my surrounding is like geophysics is a third party.

I really need your help to understand geophysics situation right now specially non seismic to mining enthusiast.

I don't see many job opportunities now for mining geophysics in the U.S. But at the same time, there might not be many students looking for jobs, either. I consider it's a niche field. You still have an opportunity to find a job in the U.S. or in Canada. You can also try to find research positions in national labs or USGS.

Wow interesting. Mostly I use TDIP, resistivity, and magnetic survey. I wonder if there are some communities who discuss about those method for mining exploration and ground water exploration.

What's geophysicists doing in USGS actually? May you give me some brief description?
Thanks.
