Seismic Impedance

Hello there,

I just began working with 2D seismics. I am working on a zero phase seismic and got a pretty basic question here.

The impedance is shown as alternating red and black lines. Does this mean the red lines have a high impedance, while the black ones, have a low impedance? This would mean that there is a huge alternation in my seismic, because the change from red to black goes on constantly. Or does every red line fit to a black line beneath?

Has you seismic section been converted to impedance? It looks like a standard seismic plot, which is more like reflection coefficient (impedance contrast). That will have alternating polariities, the red and black you see.
