GPR from a drone

Post by Michael_Seman »

I see that Grindavík will be mapped with drone GPR. Supposedly this will take a month. The town was only 3700 people, I presume they are doing a few hundred metres outside the town limits as well. There are several cracks running though the town and many sinkholes following the earthquakes and volcano. A worker fell into one of the cracks and body was not found. There have been a few near misses as well.
I am curious how well drone GPR works. I presume you can't get as much power as with GPR on a cart.

The penetration depth is limited for a gpr from a drone. Usually a high frequency antenna is chosen due to its light weight, and since it can not be ground coupled, it loses some penetrating power too.
