Best software for seismic refraction tomography
Re: Best software for seismic refraction tomography
My problem with this Geometrics software SeisImager2D is that it's not stable - I guess it has some bugs, maybe with some memory allocation problems or something. Otherwise it should at least be an OK program for me.
The other thing is that it's not easy to convert the tomography result directly into a layered model - it's hard to get a meaning result. I am still working on it and try to get familiar with this function.

Re: Best software for seismic refraction tomography
I guess that diffrer between softwares is
stability of inversion's results
Interface options
Simpleness of using
Working with import/export
Using of apriori information
In formal way softwares gives similar results

Re: Best software for seismic refraction tomography
Good points. Another thing to consider is of course the price

Re: Best software for seismic refraction tomography
So Rayfract can also work "blindly" on data, good to know. The results look similar to the results of other programs.
Re: Best software for seismic refraction tomography
It's nice to have another software to compare

Re: Best software for seismic refraction tomography
Hi guys! Nice to see that this topic is not frozen.
I have some new ideas about non-linear inversion for refraction tomography based on Madden-Mackie approach.
I suppose it can gives better results in comparision with standart inversion.
Alex
But still with opinion that the best way - including of a priori information in inversion.

Re: Best software for seismic refraction tomography
It's impressive to have such good results on ground surfaces with highly topographic change!

. See below for the final tomogram. We used a square cell sized 0.57m by 0.57m, resulting in a grid size of 41 rows vs. 183 columns and 7,503 nodes.
WET inversion time was 20 seconds on a MacBook Air running Windows 7 in Parallels Desktop 8 using 4 CPU cores in parallel, for inversion of 421 synthetic traveltimes.

Re: Best software for seismic refraction tomography
Hello guys, Please I have the Zone software for seismic and electrical resistivity. The problem is I don't know how to use it. the manual that came with it is in Russian( I guess). Can anyone help with a tutorial link or a manual written in English. thanks
