Coal exploration by ground gravity survey

Post by arbindpatel » Sat May 06, 2017 2:44 am

Can we do gravity survey for coal exploration? What kind of information we can get through the survey?

I think gravity survey is generally a 2D survey, which could give your a general idea where the coal deposit could be depending on the local geology, but you probably would not get much information at the depth dimension.

I have to agree with geophix that gravity methods are not really useful for depth but sub-surface distribution. Gravity surveys have to be used in conjunction with field mapping and seismic or borehole data.
